Cycling in the Western Lake District
As you'd imagine, mountain bikers are well catered for - but what about tourers and families? The region's cycling possibilities will not disapoint. Bring you own bike or hire one and set off on the Hadrian's Wall Cycle Trail, or even the famous C2C to name a few.
There are a huge variety of cycling routes available in the Western Lake District.
C2C Route:
Most famous of all is probably the C2C route which starts in Whitehaven or Workington on the Cumbrian Coast to Sunderland or Tynmouth on the North Sea Coast.

Hadrian's Wall Cycle Trail:
The 174-mile Hadrian's Cycleway goes through the entire World Heritage Site. It is a new cycleway (the final western section was opened in 2007) that combines existing shorter cycle routes, quiet roads and off-road tracks. Clearly signposted, the Cycleway takes cyclists near many major Roman sites, and other attractions are just a short distance from the main route.
