How to get here

Below are details of travel information for Cumbria, including how to get here, and also how to travel around once you are in Western Lake District.

By rail:
The Cumbrian Coastal Railway provides a scenic route through the district. It links with the West Coast Main Line at Carlisle and Lancaster and the cross-country routes to the North-East and Yorkshire. You can find further information on the below websites

By bus:
There are links with the National Express bus service.

You can also get more local bus information and timetables from Stagecoach North West.

By road:
Accessing the area by the south is junction 36 on the M6, A590, A5092 then A595. The main road routes are the A66, connecting with the M6, junction 40 at Penrith. This joins the A595 and A596, linking Western Lake District with Barrow-in-Furness in the south and Carlisle in the north.

For comprehensive public transport information, including bus, boat and rail services in Cumbria, call Traveline on 0870 608 2608. Lines are open from 7am to 8pm, seven days a week, and calls are charged at the national rate.
